So with the green movement we are also hearing about minimalism or simple lifestyles. For some, it means living in tiny houses, shopping at second hand stores and giving up many things you want and enjoy. But lets take a step back and compare the average American lifestyle and a more simplistic lifestyle. First let us describe the average American lifestyle.

New Green Products...Create Not So Green Habits

We all see the thousands of new green products that are put out each year. And companies claim it is all in the name of saving the planet and creating a better environment, but this is just not true. Many of these products are not necessities, which goes back to the unsustainable lifestyle of "overconsumption." We cannot continue to keep buying stuff, green or not, because it looks cool and is the new fad. However, companies trying to increase their profits each year do not want people to exercise self-control because it would limit consumer purchases and cut into their bottom lines.

Outdoor Excursion

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful fall camping trip. We did have to cut it a night short due to rain, but otherwise we really enjoyed the peace and quiet of the outdoors. We did two hikes; one was a 6 mile hike and the other was a 3.5 mile hike. We got to see lots of chipmunks, squirrels and raccoons. Although the raccoons were a little bit of a surprise. It was approximately 7:30pm at night and we were enjoying dinner by the fire and then all of a sudden three raccoons start approaching us. It was like they were expecting us to have dinner ready for them, too.

I am reading the book "The End of Food" by Paul Roberts and am finding this book very fascinating and informative. Tasty Treat

If you are like me, you may crave those salty, crunchy potato chips every once and while. Unfortunately these tasty treats are not the most nutritious and can really pack in the calories. But never fear. I have found a delicious substitute for you. They are kale chips - salty, crunchy and nutritious. In Kale you will get lots of Vitamins A and C, Calcium and Iron.
