Lied to and Poisoned

natural gas, gas companies, hydrofracking, gasland

I just got done watching a documentary that came out in 2010 called Gasland. It was Oscar nominated, and I found it enlightening about the gas industry. It also infuriated me to no end. If you haven't already watched, I highly recommend it! It shows the dirty truth the gas companies don't want you to know. The truth about drilling for natural gas [hydrofracking]. http://ecocentric.blogs.time.com/2011/02/26/a-documentary-on-natural-gas...

The Balance of Life

baby, life, environment, fragile beginnings

I recently watched this Nova show called "The Miracle of Life." The show really makes you recognize how delicate of a process it is to start a life [conception]. All the obstacles those little sperm have to go through to get to that egg. It is amazing we are able to reproduce at all! Then the complexity of how a handful of cells develop into a baby is just unbelievable.

Summer Time is Vegie Time

farmer's market, fresh produce, organic, local

My husband and I went to the farmer's market this weekend and had a wonderful time exploring the array of local produce. The nice thing about the farmer's market is not just local and organic food, but the opportunity to talk with the farmers themselves. We always learn something new about a particular type of potato, lettuce or tomato. During most of the year our diet consists of pretty basic vegetables, which makes us appreciate the delicious produce presented to us at the farmer's market.

The Cons to Natural Products

natural products, deodrant

As my husband and I slowly make the switch to more natural and eco-friendly products, we are finding that some are just down right disappointing. Recently I purchased a Burt's Bees deodorant for my husband. However, with all the different oils in the ingredients, it stained several of his shirts. It also had a very acidic smell to it. The smell I could have handled but not at the expense of ruining his shirts.
