Creamy Berry Smoothie

When it is a hot summer day, a cold beverage is what we crave. But ice cream is full of calories and sometimes the usual lemonade or ice tea are just not enough. Well, this smoothie is it! The raspberries and strawberries add the freshness and slight tartness. The dates add the sweetness without all the processed sugar. The yogurt is thick and creamy. The flaxseed oil and wheat germ add the nutrients and make the smoothie ultra healthy. It is delicious and a great addition to your summer recipe list.

Ingredient List: 

1 cup of full-fat plain organic yogurt (recommend Kalona SuperNatural)
1.5 cups of ice
4 oz of raspberries
1 cup of diced strawberries
1/2 tsp vanilla
3-5 dates cut in half
1.5 tbsp wheat germ
1 tsp of flaxseed oil (recommend cold-pressed)

Directions: 

Put ingredients in blender. [Note: add 3 dates if your fruit is sweet or you like a little tartness; add 4 to 5 dates if you want the smoothie a little sweeter.] For some blenders it may blend better if ice is on the bottom by the blades. Blend on pulse to break up the ice and then blend on high for 30 to 90 seconds (until smooth), depending on blender. (Makes 2-3 servings)
